  • How do I get my new card?

    Your New Mastercard® Debit Card will arrive via postal mail to the primary address attached to your BPWCCUL account so make sure that the information with us is up-to-date.

     

  • When will I get my new debit card?

    Members for who we have up-to-date information will receive their cards in the mail in June 2021. For those members who we don’t have up-to-date information, those cards will be sent to the Credit Union in June 2021 but arrangements will be made for them to receive their cards once up-to-date information is received so that they can activate their cards without issues.

     

  • How do I activate my new card?

    On receipt of your New BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card, please call 246-622-9000 and follow the auto attendant prompts as instructed to activate and PIN your card. The system will automatically seek to verify the information you enter with the information on your account, so it’s important that the information in the system is accurate and up-to-date.

     

  • Where will my new card work?

    Your New BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit card, will be accessible at any local or overseas ATM or Point-of-Sale device bearing the Mastercard® logo and additionally at any online merchant that accepts Mastercard®.

     

  • Can I continue to use my Co-Optima Card
    when I receive my new Mastercard®?

    Yes. However, the Co-Optima Card will cease to function via Carifs at a specified time and we will inform all members of this date. Until then, the Co-Optima card be available for use at BPWCCUL ATM’s until December 31st 2021.

     

  • Will there be any changes to transaction fees?

    Yes.  The cost of transacting business via Mastercard® is different from that of CariFS, therefore a change in transaction fees is expected at other local Financial Institutions’ ATMs and local Point-of-Sale terminals.

    As regulated by the Central Bank a 2% fee will be charged for international transactions.

     

  • Are there any other charges associated
    with the Mastercard® Debit card?

    Yes. A fee will be charged for replacing lost, stolen or damaged cards.

     

  • What is a Chip & PIN technology?

    Chip & PIN technology is found in both debit and credit cards, where the card contains a computer data chip (usually found on the front of the card) that requires a four-digit personal identification number (PIN) for the cardholders to successfully make purchases and perform ATM transactions. It is currently the gold-standard in card security technology.

     

  • Why does the new card also have a magnetic stripe?

    Your card has a magnetic stripe in case a device (ATM or Point-of-Sale) is not capable of reading a CHIP or if the CHIP fails to be recognized by the terminal.

     

  • Is there a limit to my purchases or ATM withdrawals?

    Yes. There is a daily limit at BPWCCUL ATMs and other institution’s ATMs. There’s also a daily limit at local Point-of-Sale and at overseas Point-of-Sale.

    Also, as a standard, the Central Bank of Barbados has set a yearly limit of USD $10,000.00 for each Mastercard® Debit cardholder.

     

  • What should I do in case there is a discrepancy on my account in relation to the BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card?

    For transaction discrepancies, members are asked to visit any branch of BPWCCUL and complete a Transaction Dispute form.

    Information required: Name, address, card number, approximate time and location of transaction being disputed and a detailed explanation of what occurred.

     

  • What security features/enhancements are
    expected by this transition?

    Your new debit cards will have the enhanced features to help combat against fraud and safeguard your hard-earned money.

     

  • How will POS transactions with the new platform
    compare to the current platform?

    In most cases, there will be no change to your experience as a consumer when using their new Mastercard® debit card. Over time, we will implement features like Chip and PIN or Tap and Pay capabilities. We will update you when these changes have been enabled.
