  • Goodbye CarIFS,
    Hello BPWCCUL Debit Mastercard®

The time has come for us to officially say goodbye to our Local Debit Card network provider CariFS on November 30th, 2021.  As we transitioned over the past few months, we have been able to offer our members an even more secure, more widely accepted, more convenient debit card experience with our new partner Mastercard®.

What does this mean for the Co-Optima Card?

Our new BPWCCUL Debit Mastercard® will soon replace all previously issued Co-Optima and Co-Optima Advance cards.

Use of the Co-Optima card will be limited to our Co-Optima ATMs only for a limited time i.e. the card will no longer work at point-of-sale terminals nor the ATMs of other financial institutions after CariFS officially closes.

The new BPWCCUL Mastercard® has been sent via postal mail to eligible members. If you have not yet received your Debit Mastercard®, we encourage you to call our Card Department at 622-9000 and select the ‘Card Queries’ and select 4 again to speak with an agent.  You may also call 622-9123 or 622-8983 directly or send an email to contact@bpwccul.bb.

Frequently Asked
Questions

  • How do I get my new card?

Your BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card will arrive via postal mail to the primary address attached to your account, so make sure that your information with us is up-to-date.

  • When will I get my new debit card?

Members for who we have up-to-date information will begin to receive their cards in the mail from June 2021.

Members who have not recently updated their account information will have to do so before their card can be sent to them via postal mail.

Also, if your account has a Co-Optima card attached to it but you haven’t used the card within the last two (2) years, you are then required to request the card from us.

  • Will I receive a BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card if I did not have a Co-Optima card?

No. If you would like to receive a card you will be required to request one.

  • Will I receive a card even if
    I do not want one?

Cards were generated for all accounts that currently have Co-Optima cards attached to them.  If you recently updated your account information, a BPWCCUL Mastercard Debit will be mailed to you.

You may contact our Contact Centre at 622-9000 for further details.

  • Will I be eligible to receive a BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card at 16 or 17 years old as an adult member?

No. Members must be at least 18 years old in order to be eligible to receive a card. You may call our Contact Centre at 622-9000 for further details.

  • What is a Chip & PIN card?

A Chip & PIN card is a debit or credit card that contains a computer data chip (usually found on the front of the card) that requires a four-digit personal identification number (PIN) for the cardholders to successfully make purchases and ATM transactions.

  • Why does the new card also have
    a magnetic stripe?

Your card has a magnetic stripe in case a device (ATM or Point-of-Sale) is not capable of reading a CHIP or if the CHIP fails to be recognized by the terminal.

  • How do I activate my new card?

On receipt of your BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card, please call 246-622-9000 and follow the auto-attendant prompts to activate and PIN your card. The system will automatically seek to verify the information you enter with the information on your account, so it’s important that the information in the system is accurate and up-to-date.

This activation and pinning process should be completed on the same call before the card can be used.

Please note that during this process you will be asked to enter your credit card number, however you should enter your BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card number at that point.

  • How soon after activation can the card be used?

Your card can be used immediately after it has been successfully activated and pinned.

  • Can I continue to use my Co-Optima Card when I receive my new Mastercard®?

Yes. However, the Co-Optima Card will cease to function via CarIFS at a specified time and we will inform all members of this date. Until then, the Co-Optima card will be available for use at BPWCCUL ATM’s only until December 31st 2021.

  • What are the benefits of the BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card compared to the Co-Optima card?

    • Can make online purchases
    • Facilitates point-of-sale purchases locally and internationally at thousands of merchants.
    • Accesses foreign currency automatically when overseas, so there is no need to purchase cash when travelling.
    • Allows safer and faster transactions with Chip and PIN and contactless technology.
    • Includes transaction control features that allow you to freeze your card if misplaced, get alerts when your card is used or block online transactions.
    • Has account protection with robust security features such as international, 24 hour fraud monitoring.

  • With the Co-Optima card I was able to make purchases using either my Shares or Call Deposit records at points-of-sale and at other financial institution’s ATMs. Will I be able to do the same with my BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card?

Yes. You will be able to access the funds on both your Shares and Call Deposit accounts where the point-of-sale terminal or the ATMs of other financial institutions provide these options. However, do note that the funds used to perform online transactions will be taken from your Call Deposit account.

In light of this, we encourage members to use our Co-Optima services (Online Banking, Mobile Banking App, ATMs) to transfer funds as needed within their account.

  • Will I still be able to use my Co-Optima Advance card?

No. The BPWCCUL Mastercard® Debit Card will facilitate access to your line-of-credit funds once they are transferred to your Call Deposit record.

  • Will there be any changes to
    transaction fees?

Yes. The cost of transacting business via Mastercard® is different from that of CariFS, therefore a change in transaction fees can be expected at other local financial institutions’ ATMs not related to BPWCCUL.
