At the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited, we are committed to conducting our affairs in an honest and transparent manner. Due to this effort, we have partnered with a third party provider to create “Be Heard” This is a new avenue for members of the Credit Union to anonymously raise concerns about wrongdoing by members of staff, or elected officials. It is free, secure and available 24/7.

What is Whistleblowing?

Whistleblowing is the mechanism through which members of the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited can anonymously raise concerns about serious matters and/or misconduct involving the organisation.

When should I Speak Up?

Members are encouraged to speak up when they wish to remain anonymous and when they believe the other avenues for address are inappropriate. Concerns are not limited to but can include the following:

- Anti-Competition
  Repetitive non-substantiated use of one vendor over another.
- Confidentiality or Privacy Issue
  Breach of confidential information obtained for business purposes only.
- Money Laundering
  The act or attempted act to disguise the source of money or assets derived from criminal activity. Basically it is the effort to transform “dirty” money, into “clean” money.
- Assault/Battery
  Physical or verbal attack on a person on the company’s premises, or at a company event resulting in harm.
- Breach of Company Policy
  Occurs where an employee does NOT follow the rules, policies or procedures whilst transacting business on behalf of companies within the Group.
- Discrimination
  Involves treating a person or group of people differently because of who they are or because they possess certain characteristics.
- Political Manipulation
  Activity designed to promote an individual or group of individuals to an elected post within the Group.
- Duty of Care
  Is the employee’s inability or non-compliance with some process or procedure in the conduct of their duties.
- Security Issue
  Security is freedom from, or resilience against, potential harm from external forces whether it is a physical threat or company security breach.
- Bribery
  The giving or receiving of a financial or other advantage in connection with the "improper performance" of an employee in a position of trust, or a function that is expected to be performed improperly in good faith.
- Fraud
  Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain for the alleged perpetrator.
- Service Quality/Delivery Issue
  Customer dissatisfaction with service received from Company’s within the Group.
- Bullying
  Defined as offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, an abuse or misuse of power that undermines, humiliates, denigrates or injures the recipient (emotionally or physically).
- Giving and receiving of Gifts/Entertainment
  The employee’s acceptance of a gift or favour from someone with whom the group does business for material value in exchange for personal gain.
- Sexual Harassment
  Can occur between persons of the same or opposite sex and may also be committed by a customer of the Group to any employee of the Group. It includes granting or denying an employee benefits based on the employee’s acceptance or tolerance of sexual advances.
- Conflict of Interest
  When the interests of one employee’s conflict with the interests and that employee stands to benefit from that situation.
- Harassment
  Is defined as any verbal or physical conduct that: threatens, intimidates, humiliates or embarrasses an employee or any person working for or on behalf of the Group; or where the employee believes it impairs his or her ability to perform his or her job.
- Substance Abuse
  Where it is recognised that an employee may be a regular drug user.
- Corruption
  Is a form of dishonesty or criminal activity entrusted by a person in authority for personal gain. May include bribery or embezzlement.
- Health and Safety
  A breach in the relevant law or good practice which endangers an employee.
- Theft
  Where a person mis-appropriates property belonging to the Organisation with the intention of permanently depriving the organisation of it.
- Intellectual Property Theft
  Where persons use the companies Intellectual Property for purposes other than intended.
- Intimidation
  An individual frightening or threatening an employee to do something that they would not ordinarily do.
- Vandalism/Criminal Damage
  Involves damage to the Company's property.
- Verbal Abuse
  The use of derogatory language such as name calling, ridicule and discounting personal feelings.

What other avenues can I use to report incidents?

Speak Up is not the only medium through which you can raise suspicions of wrongdoing. The existing avenues are still in use and include the following:

Who is Expolink?

Expolink is a company that provides a whistleblowing service. The telephone line, email address and mobile app are all administered by Expolink. They do not track IP addresses and will log your concerns anonymously if you desire – it’s your choice.

How can I Speak Up?

You can contact the toll free number at 1 844 854 1994. Please note that if you use the hotline, you may be asked to provide your personal details – this is optional and will in no way influence the seriousness with which your incident is treated.

What Happens after I
Speak Up?

Once you complete your report, you will receive a case number. This case number can then be used to check the progress of your concern on the website. Check the progress for your concern here.

Your report will be routed for investigation. Please note – persons who are named in any incident, will not have access to the submitted report.
