Gerard Prescod

Reason for wanting to serve:

I have an interest in management and good governance and so wish to lend any expertise I may have through my training to the Credit Union at the Supervisory level.

Educated at Bay Primary, The Alleyne School and the University of the West Indies, Gerard Prescod is a man of various skills and talents.  A Joiner by trade, Soldier, Stock Room Clerk, Personal Assistant, Security Practitioner and now Executive Officer. He has had vast experience working both in the Private and Public Sector.

He has been a member of the Public Workers Credit union for the past 34 years, and credits this organization with assisting him in achieving most of what he has through its programs, loans and training sessions, which has made him a better person financially.

Gerard holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master's of Science in Labour and Employment Relations, both from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill.

Seemingly quite unassuming by those who don't know him well, Gerard is not one to stand quiet when he sees that something is wrong. He is one who will fight for the rights of others even if it no benefit to him. He will not stand by and remain silent on matters that need to be espoused and is a fervent believer in helping those less privileged and marginalized.

As Chair for the Reps Committee, he was instrumental in collaborating with the Water Warriors in taking water to residents in drought stricken areas; He also joined forces with  some of his military comrades in helping to raise funds for the Homeless and Vagrants Society. He believes in being of service and one of the many mantras by which he lives is "continuing to serve"

Gerard has served in many leadership roles, being a PTA President, Alumni President, School Board Member, Optimist Club Vice President and President, Member of Executive Council of Barbados Workers Union since 2011, Director of the Caribbean Association of Security Professionals and Chairperson of the Credit Union Reps Committee for two years.

He has travelled as far as West Africa, assisting and training  persons in the field of Security and Logistics.

This year he seeks election on the Supervisory Committee after some years of thought about such an idea. His desire to be part of the Supervisory Committee at this time is driven by his desire to assist in bringing continued Good Governance to this Organization, and he believes the time is right, to embark upon that journey.
